He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fearfully, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
