Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No indeed, but you show no kindness to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you love wealth with exceeding love. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 into My Paradise. 30
