The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Terror descends 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 full of love, well-matched 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
