Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and before him We created the jinn from smokeless fire. 27 Your Lord said to the angels, "I am about to bring into being a man wrought from mud. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 Thereupon the angels prostrated themselves, all of them together, 30 except iblis (father of the jinn) who refused to be one of those who prostrated themselves. 31 He said: O Iblis! What aileth thee that thou art not among the prostrate? 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 He said: My Lord! then respite me till the time when they are raised. 36 The Lord said, "Your request is granted 37 "Till the Day of the Time appointed." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 except those of Your servants whom You have singled out for Yourself." 40 Said Allah, “This path* leads straight towards Me.” (* The path of the chosen bondmen.) 41 Lo! as for My slaves, thou hast no power over any of them save such of the froward as follow thee, 42 Surely Hell is the promised place for all of them." 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
