The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The hour drew nigh and the moon was rent in twain. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 turn thou away from them. On the Day when the Summoning Voice will summon [man] unto something that the mind cannot conceive, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 Noah prayed, "Lord, help me; I am defeated". 10 So We opened the gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Moving forward under Our eyes: a requital for him who had been rejected. 14 And indeed, We have caused such [floating vessels] to remain forever a sign [of Our grace unto man]: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We sent a tumultuous wind against them on a day of unremitting misfortune, 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
