The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 but [only] a few of later times. 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and serried acacias, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
