The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 though they shall be within sight of each other. The guilty one will gladly ransom himself from the torment of that Day by sacrificing his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 And the family in which he was. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And accumulated wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 except those who are steadfast 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
