He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 you ignore him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and herbage 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
