The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked of a chastisement about to fall 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 from God, the Lord of the Stairways. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 and no bosom friend will enquire about any of his bosom friends 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother, 12 and his kinsfolk who had stood by him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Eager to roast; 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Truly man was created very impatient;- 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who closely follow (the Book of God), 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 They are those who assign a certain share of their property 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who protect their prayers. 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
