The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said unto them: fear ye not? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 I ask of you no reward. My reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 145 Will you be left secure in what is here; 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And dwellings hewed out of mountains ingeniously? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 “Those who spread turmoil in the earth, and do no reform.” 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are naught but a mortal like ourselves; so bring a sign if you are one of the truthful. 154 Replied he: "This she-camel shall have a share of water, and you shall have a share of water, on the days appointed [therefor]; 155 "And touch her not with harm, lest the torment of a Great Day seize you." 156 So they hamstrung her, and in the morning could only regret. 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 159
