The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 and when the earth is stretched out 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 obeying its Lord, as it must do! 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 Then, as for him who will be given his Record in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 and he will return to his family joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Record behind his back,- 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 He assumed that he does not have to return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 That you will climb from stage to stage. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
