Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
