The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
