The chiefs of the people of Fir'awn said: verily this is a magician knowing. 109 who desires to expel you from your land; what do you command?' 110 They said (unto Pharaoh): Put him off (a while) - him and his brother - and send into the cities summoners, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: 'Moses, will you throw first or shall we be the throwers' 115 He answered: "You throw [first]." And when they threw down [their staffs,] they cast a spell upon the people's eyes, and struck them with awe, and produced mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus was the Truth vindicated and that which they were doing was made vain. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 Crying: We believe in the Lord of the Worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Haroun. 122 The Pharaoh said to the magicians, "You declared your belief in him (Moses) without my permission. This is a plot to throw my people out of their city. But you will soon know. 123 "Surely, I will cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides, then I will crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 "And you take vengeance on us only because we believed in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, lessons, signs, etc.) of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience, and cause us to die as Muslims." 126
