Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you, 143 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 144 I do not ask any recompense of you for this. My reward is due from none but the Lord of all the worlds. 145 "Will you be left secure in that which you have here? 146 in the midst of gardens and fountains, 147 and cornfields and date-palms laden with juicy fruits? 148 Though ye hew out dwellings in the mountain, being skilful? 149 “Therefore fear Allah and obey me.” 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel; it has a right to drink (water), and you have a right to drink (water) (each) on a day, known. 155 Do not cause her to suffer lest you become subject to the torment of the great day (of Judgment)." 156 But they hamstrung her, then regretted; 157 and torment struck them. In this there is evidence of the Truth, yet many people do not have any faith. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
