Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And enter My Paradise." 30
