The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
