Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there reached you the report of the Overwhelming [event]? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 Burning in the scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which shall neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 In a Garden on high, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 and rich carpets levelled out. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
