Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
