The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 and by the moon when she follows him, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and by the night as it envelopes the sun; 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 by the earth and that (Power) which spread it out 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it to lewdness and godfearing! 8 He who nourishes it will surely be successful, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 The Thamud denied (the truth) in their perverseness 11 When among them the great wretch arose, 12 But the Messenger of Allah [Salih (Saleh)] said to them: "Be cautious! Fear the evil end. That is the she-camel of Allah! (Do not harm it) and bar it not from having its drink!" 13 Then they belied him and they hamstrung her; wherefore their Lord overwhelmed them for their crime, and made it equal. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
