۞ Gather together those who did wrong and their comrades and that which they were wont to worship 22 "Instead of Allah, and lead them on to the way of flaming Fire (Hell); 23 "But stop them, for they must be asked: 24 What is the matter with you that you do not help each other? 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 And they will turn to one another, and question one another. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will say: nay! ye yourselves were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. In fact, you were a people rebellious. 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 "So we led you astray because we were ourselves astray." 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said unto them, There is no Allah save Allah, they were scornful 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Indeed, you [disbelievers] will be tasters of the painful punishment, 38 and be rewarded only according to your deeds." 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 in the Gardens of Delight, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 With cups from a flowing stream being passed around, 45 White, a pleasure unto the drinkers. 46 causing no headiness or intoxication. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 "'When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed receive rewards and punishments?'" 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then, he will look and see him in the midst of Hell. 55 He will say to him: -- By Allah, you almost ruined me. 56 And had it not been for the favor of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought up. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Verily this! that is the supreme achievement. 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is this better as an entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell. 64 Its emerging fruit as if it was heads of the devils. 65 Truly they will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then their return will be to the same blazing Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And indeed most of the men of old went astray before them; 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
