Vanity (Al-Zukhruf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 By the Scripture which maketh plain, 2 Surely We have made it an Arabic Quran that you may understand. 3 It is in the Origin of the Book with Us, sublime and wise. 4 Shall We turn away the Remembrance from you because you are a sinful nation? 5 Many a prophet had We sent to the earlier communities, 6 Yet never did a Prophet come to them but they mocked him. 7 so We destroyed men stronger in valour than they, and the example of the ancients passed away. 8 And indeed if you ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "The All-Mighty, the All-Knower created them." 9 He it is who has made the earth a cradle for you, and has provided for you ways [of livelihood] thereon, so that you might follow the right path. 10 That sends down (from time to time) rain from the sky in due measure;- and We raise to life therewith a land that is dead; even so will ye be raised (from the dead);- 11 And He Who created pairs of all things, and made for you of the ships and the cattle what you ride on, 12 That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it. 13 Hence, verily, it is unto Him that we must always turn." 14 Yet they have made some of His servants a part of Him. Indeed man is most evidently thankless. 15
