He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And for him who came to you striving, 8 And hath fear, 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 In honored books, 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 then causes him to die and buries him, 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 And We made corn grow, 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
