The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore endure with a goodly patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 his kin who sheltered him, 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Lo! man was created anxious, 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 save those that pray 22 and continue at their prayers, 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Except with their wives and the (captives) whom their right hands possess,- for (then) they are not to be blamed, 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
