The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 stay away from sins 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
