He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 you attend to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
