The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 will you, then, contend with him as to what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight [of the Prophet] did not swerve, nor did it transgress [its limit]. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
