a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 And those on the Left Hand Who will be those on the Left Hand? 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 But persisted in that greater sin, 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink boiling water on top of that, 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from changing the nature of your existence and bringing you into being [anew] in a manner [as yet] unknown to you. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 Had We wanted, We could have made it salty. Why then do you not give thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
