The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 You will become three categories: 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These will be those Nearest to Allah: 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
