The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil toucheth him, he is bewailing. 20 If good comes to him he holds back his hand, 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 But whosoever seeks beyond that, then it is those who are trespassers. 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and are steadfast in their prayers. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
