The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
