The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 Concerning which they are in disagreement. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs, 8 and We appointed your sleep for a rest; 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And constructed above you seven strong [heavens] 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 From the rain clouds We send waters pouring down in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetations, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
