The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 on fine parchment; 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
