In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 [He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs. 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
