He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then split the earth in clefts 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 On the Day a man will flee from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
