Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 I swear by the illustrious Book. 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 which will smother the people. They will say, "This is a painful torment. 11 'O our Lord, remove Thou from us the chastisement; we are believers.' 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 saying, "Hand over God's servants to me. I am a trustworthy messenger for you. 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if ye will not believe in me, then let me alone. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 sown fields, and how noble a station, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
