The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 and endowed with wisdom; who in time manifested himself; 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
