Al-Waaqe'ah 2 of 3
a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a (goodly) number from those of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor agreeable. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 Fill your bellies with it, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you thought about what crops you plant? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74

How does the memorization exercise algorithm work? At the lowest level 0, all words are visible. While the highest level 9 hides all words. What about at mid-level, like 3, for example? You might think that the algorithm hides precisely 3 out of every nine words. Not quite! At level 3, each word has a 3 out of 9 chance to hide, and 6 out of 9 to be visible. In other words, it is possible, but highly unlikely, for all words at level 3 to be hidden, or, that all of them to be visible! Also, at mid-levels, and in proportion to the difficulty level, hideouts can be partially incomplete or transparent so that words may be partially visible underneath.
