The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
