If affliction befalls you, it is what your own hands have earned, but He pardons a lot. 30 Ye cannot escape in the earth, for beside Allah ye have no protecting friend nor any helper. 31 Ships sailing in the ocean like ensigns are a sign of His. 32 if He so wills, He stills the wind, and then they lie motionless on the sea's surface - [and] herein, behold, there are messages indeed for all who are wholly patient in adversity and deeply grateful [to God]; 33 Or, He wrecks them for what they have earned, but He pardons a lot. 34 Let those who dispute Our signs know that there is no way of escape for them. 35 Whatever you have received is just a means of enjoyment for this life but the reward of God for the believers and those who trust in their Lord will be better and everlasting. 36 who refrain from heinous sins and gross indecencies; who forgive when they are angry; 37 those who answer their Lord, establish the prayers, and their affairs are by consultation; who spend of that which We have given them, 38 and who, when insolence visits them, do help themselves -- 39 The retribution of evil is the equal of evil (done); yet those who forgive and rehabilitate will be rewarded by God. Verily He does not like those who do wrong. 40 If one avenges himself after he has been wronged, there is no way of blaming him. 41 The way of blame is only against those who wrong mankind, and rebel in the earth without justice; these! for them is a torment afflictive. 42 But withal, if one is patient in adversity and forgives - this, behold, is indeed something to set one's heart upon! 43
