The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 “And I do not ask from you any fee for it; my reward is only upon the Lord Of The Creation.” 145 "Do you think that you will be left secure [forever] in the midst of what you have here and now? 146 Within gardens and springs 147 sown fields and palmtrees, with slender spathes. 148 And you carve out of the mountains, homes, with skill. 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 He said: yonder is a she-camel; to her a drink, and to you a drink, each on a day known. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 and the punishment seized them. Surely, in that there is a sign. Yet most of them do not believe. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
