Thamud gave the lie to the warnings, 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Was there none but he to whom the Reminder could be vouchsafed excluding all others? Nay; he is an insolent liar.” 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 Lo! We are sending the she-camel as a test for them; so watch them and have patience; 27 Tell them that each one of them has the right to have a certain share of water". 28 But they summoned their [boldest] companion, and he ventured [upon the evil deed,] and cruelly slaughtered [the animal]: 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Surely We sent upon them a single cry, so they were like the dry fragments of trees which the maker of an enclosure collects. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 Lot's people also gave the lie to the warnings, 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 They demanded that he turn over his guests to them. We struck their faces, blinded them and said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 37 And verily, an abiding torment seized them early in the morning. 38 Taste then My torment and My warnings. 39 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 40
