The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your garments purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity. 31
