The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky is rent asunder, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 when the earth flattens out, 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 And listens and obeys its Lord, and it must do so; 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 Soon will his account be taken by an easy reckoning, 8 And he will turn to his people, rejoicing! 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 shall call for destruction 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And the night and all it gathers, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What is the matter with them? Why do they not believe? 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah well knows what they conceal in their hearts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
