It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate. 11 He said: What hindered you so that you did not prostrate when I commanded you? He said: I am better than he: Thou hast created me of fire, while him Thou didst create of dust. 12 [Allah] said, "Descend from Paradise, for it is not for you to be arrogant therein. So get out; indeed, you are of the debased. 13 Said [Iblis]: "Grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead." 14 Said He, 'Thou art among the ones that are respited.' 15 He said: As Thou hast caused me to remain disappointed I will certainly lie in wait for them in Thy straight path. 16 "Then will I assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: Nor wilt thou find, in most of them, gratitude (for thy mercies)." 17 "Begone," said (God), "contemptible and rejected! As for those who follow you, I shall fill up Hell with all of you. 18 And said, “O Adam! You and your wife dwell in Paradise – therefore eat from it from wherever you wish, and do not approach this tree for you will become of those who transgress.” 19 Then Satan whispered to them that he might manifest unto them that which was hidden from them of their shame, and he said: Your Lord forbade you from this tree only lest ye should become angels or become of the immortals. 20 And he swore to them both: 'Surely I am your sincere adviser.' 21 So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?" 22 Both replied: 'Lord, We have harmed ourselves. If You do not forgive us and have mercy on us, we shall surely be among the lost' 23 Allah said: get ye down, one of you an enemy unto another; and for you on the earth there shall be a habitation and provision for a season. 24 He said: There shall ye live, and there shall ye die, and thence shall ye be brought forth. 25
