In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Sad. By the Qur'an containing reminder... 1 nay, but the unbelievers glory in their schism. 2 How many a generation We destroyed before them, and they cried out when it was no longer the time for escape! 3 They were surprised that one of them had come to them as warner; and the unbelievers said: "He is a deceiving sorcerer. 4 Does he claim that all the deities are [but] one God? Verily, a most strange thing is this!" 5 And the Council of them depart, saying 'Go! Be steadfast to your gods; this is a thing to be desired. 6 Never did we hear of [a claim like] this in any faith of latter days! It is nothing but [a mortal man's] invention! 7 Was the message sent only to him out of all of us?" In fact, they doubt My warning; in fact, they have not yet tasted My punishment. 8 Do they have the stores of the mercy of your Lord, the mighty and munificent? 9 Or, is theirs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and that which is in-between the twain? If so, let them ascend by steps. 10 [They are but] soldiers [who will be] defeated there among the companies [of disbelievers]. 11 Cried lies before them the people of Noah, and Ad, and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 12 and [the tribe of] Thamud, and the people of Lot, and the dwellers of the wooded dales [of Madyan]: they all were leagued together, [as it were, in their unbelief:] 13 Each of them who rejected the Messenger become subject to Our punishment. 14
