In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 half the night, or a little less 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Indeed during the day you have a long schedule of occupations. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 We have indeed sent a Noble Messenger towards you, a present witness over you the way We had sent a Noble Messenger towards Firaun. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 on which the heaven will split apart, and His promise is done. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
