The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
When the sun is covered, 1 When the stars fall, losing their lustre; 2 The mountains made to move, 3 And when the camels big with young are abandoned, 4 the wild beasts are herded together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 when the souls shall be coupled, 7 questions are asked about the baby girls buried alive, 8 For what crime she was killed; 9 And when the pages are laid open, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 And when the Scorch shall be made to blaze, 12 And when the Garden is brought nigh, 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 So verily, I swear by the planets that recede (i.e. disappear during the day and appear during the night). 15 Go straight, or hide; 16 And the Night as it dissipates; 17 And by the dawn as it brightens; 18 Most surely it is the Word of an honored messenger, 19 one mighty and held in honour with the Lord of the Throne; 20 [the word] of one to be heeded, and worthy of trust! 21 Your companion is not possessed; 22 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) high up on the horizon in his original form 23 And he is of the unseen not a tenacious concealer. 24 Nor is this the word of a stoned satan. 25 Whither then go ye? 26 That is but an advice to the entire creation! 27 For the one among you who wishes to become upright. 28 but will you shall not, unless God wills, the Lord of all Being. 29
