The elders of Pharaoh's people said: 'Surely this man is a skilful magician 109 “He wishes to expel you all from your kingdom; so what do you advise?” 110 They said, "Let him and his brother wait awhile, and send into the cities summoners, 111 Who will bring you every learned magician." 112 And the magicians came unto Fir'awn. They said: surely there is for us a reward if we are the overcomers. 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 Moses said: 'You throw.' So when they threw [their rods], they enchanted the eyes of the people, and struck them with awe, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the wizards fell down prostrate, 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 the Lord of Moses and Aaron. 122 Pharaoh said: 'Do you believe in Him before I permit? This is a plot that you have contrived in the city in order to expel its people from it. Now you shall know! 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 And you do not take revenge on us except because we have believed in the communications of our Lord when they came to us! Our Lord: Pour out upon us patience and cause us to die in submission. 126
