Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 Or do they benefit or harm you? 73 They replied: 'No, but we found our fathers doing so' 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 are my enemies? Not so the Lord of the Universe. 77 "Who has created me, and it is He Who guides me; 78 He who gives me food and drink; 79 and Who, when I am ill, heals me; 80 Who will make me die, then give me life again, 81 and He who will, I hope, forgive me my faults on the Day of the Judgement. 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 And forgive my father. Lo! he is of those who err. 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 The Day when there will not benefit [anyone] wealth or children 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 And it shall be said unto them where is that which ye were wont to worship? 92 instead of God? Can these [things and beings] be of any help to you or to themselves?" 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 And the hosts of the Shaitan, all. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of all Being. 98 Only the sinful ones made us go astray. 99 We have no intercessors now, 100 nor do we have a truly sincere friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And verily thy Lord! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
